Snowkite Newfoundland Canada

Snow Kiting is Canada is about access. Most of us are used to seeing snowkite videos of guys flying through the air or getting launched into the sky, but for the most part, kiting is about being connected to the ground and using the kite as a tool to help you tap into the power of the wind.

With lots of snow covered, wind swept terrain here in Canada, we are blessed with some of the ski touring destinations on the planet - and there is not better way to enhance your ski and snowboard experience then with the freedom a snowkite gives you.

This video was taken a few days ago in the Lewis Hills with My Newfoundland Adventures.

Beginner Snow Kiting - This is what it really looks like...

When you see videos of people snow kiting, they are usually taking huge airs and doing things that look scary... it's true, you can push your limits in any sport. We see people in kayaks go off waterfalls, rock climbers climb without ropes, extreme skiers and snowboarders ride down seemingly vertical slopes, but these are people operating on the fringe of their sport. It makes for great video, but it is far from the average experience.

Snow Kiting is all about going at your own pace and having fun. You start by learning the basics from an instructor, so you can understand how to safely land and launch your kite, how to depower your kite in the case of an emergency, and you learn to master basic control before incorporating skis or snowboards into the mix. Once you have the hang of things, you learn to have your kite take you downwind, followed by practicing how to come back upwind. This typically takes place on open, flat terrain with moderate and steady wind. Below is a short video clip of what you can really expect snow kiting to be like, especially when you are just beginning.

Taking a lesson is the best way to discover the sport of snow kiting. Newfoundland Canada has Canada's first and largest dedicated Canadian Snow Kite School. They offer Snowkite Vacations, Snow Kite Clinics, and Snowmobile Back-Up & Support for snow kiters of all abilities.

If you can take a lesson, but still want to learn on your own, the pure in a box package offers you all the basics for one affordable price. You get a kite, lines, bar, harness, and instructional DVD all for one price. This is the same kite used in the Newfoundland Snow Kite School and is a perfect way to begin.

No fumes, no noise, just you, the wind, and your kite.... one of the best ways to explore the Canadian winter wilderness.
